Do you ever feel like God is holding out on you? Maybe you can’t wait to climb the ladder of success of work. To meet the love of your life. To have that long-awaited child. And for whatever reason, you haven’t yet… all of which can cause questioning about whether God really has our best interest in mind. Could He be holding out on us?
Eve wondered the same thing. The serpent’s cunning scheme was to plant doubt in Eve’s mind, essentially asking, “Does He really mean good for you?” (Genesis 4:3) In Eve’s case, the actions regarding her questioning had catastrophic outcomes.
According to Beth Moore in Get Out of That Pit, “Satan talks us into distrusting God and distancing ourselves from Him to keep us broken, ineffective, and frankly out of his hair. We let the enemy taunt us into believing that God is holding out on us. We just don’t trust him.”
Is that what it boils down to? I’d like to think that I trust God. Wholeheartedly. But there are times that I wonder if He has forgotten about me or if He can possibly have my best interest in mind when bad things happen.
Yet I keep coming back to Psalm 84:11 which says, “No good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” If we’re in Christ, then we’re blameless. Although we may think a promotion, a spouse, or a baby would be nice, we have to trust that we don’t have it right now for a reason. Maybe He has a better job in mind at a different company at a different time. Maybe a future spouse isn’t ready yet. Or maybe He has a child from another country He wants you to adopt.
Do you trust God wholeheartedly?
