The World Cup, Colts, and Choices…
So instead of focusing my attention on that the last few weeks, I’ve been reminiscing about the Colts season. (Preseason is less than 5 weeks away!!!) My favorite win this past year was against the Patriots. Not only was it against our arch rivals (in a series of games deemed the “Rivalry of the Decade”), the game hinged on one decision made my Coach Bill Belichick in the 4th quarter. Let’s reminisce, shall we? 🙂
It was 4th and 2. They Patriots were up by 6 and had the ball on the 28-yard-line with 2 minutes and 8 seconds left in the game. The Patriots went for it, but they only gained one yard. I’m sure Idiot Coach was hoping to gain the 2 yards and keep the ball out of the hands of our laser-rocket-armed Manning, but his plan clearly failed.
With 13 seconds of play remaining, Manning threw a touchdown to Reggie Wayne, bringing the score to 34-34. Matt Stover (My hero!) kicked the extra point to win the game.
It all came down to one call. One decision. One moment. In the end, the entire game shifted and brought an unexpectedly glorious outcome.
The moral of the story is…
All it takes is one bad decision, one wrong choice … for everything to fall apart.
And sometimes bad guys (*Ahem…Belichick) DO finish last. 🙂
