It would have been the last play of nearly-perfectly pitched game by Armando Galarraga – until umpire Jim Joyce called the batter safe at first.  But after reviewing the play, the ump realized he was in the wrong.

I’m not a fan of baseball, but I don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand the magnitude (and rarity) of a perfectly-pitched game.  I can’t imagine having achieved such a feat only to have it stripped of you wrongfully.

The grace with which the pitcher handled the entire situation baffled me.   He could have yelled or complained, yet he never said a word after it happened. “There’s no doubt he feels bad,” Galarraga said. “I have a lot of respect for the man. It takes a lot to say you’re sorry and to say in interviews he made a mistake.”

Well done, Galarraga.  You have MUCH to be proud of!
