The Last Samurai

I watched The Last Samurai a few weeks ago.  I was advised to watch it before I went to Japan last August, but I ran out of time.  I guess 10 months late is better than never. 🙂

One of the final scenes in the movie struck me.  The Emperor begs Algren for information regarding his nemesis’s death, “Tell me how he died.”

Without hesitation, Algren answered, “I will tell you how he lived.”

As I watched this poignant scene, I couldn’t help but think of Christ.  If we look solely at how He died – via crucifixion on a cross – it would show little more than a criminal’s death.   Like Katsumoto, we can learn far more by examining how He lived.
