What Goes Around…

What goes aroundOne of my friends is a big proponent of karma.  He believes that it’s a force of the universe, that what goes around, comes around.  That somehow, we’ll “get” what’s coming to us.

Previously, I easily dismissed this idea.  And yet after reading some Scriptures, I’m wondering if the idea of karma is somewhat biblical.

“The saying ‘one sows and another reaps’ is true,” John 4:7 says.

Paul reminded the Corinthians, “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously” (2 corinthians 9:6).

In Galatians 6:7-8, he said, “A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

Based on those verses alone, I might be tempted to think that karma somehow relates to Christianity.

Yet even though they may have similarities, there’s a big difference between the two:  Jesus.  Sure, there may be earthly consequences for our actions, but because of Him, there is forgiveness of our sin in this life so that we can reap the benefits in the next.

What do you think – is karma Scriptural?
