marriedsingleThis weekend I hosted in Sojourn.  (Sojourn = an interactive, more intimate worship venue at Grace that usually includes discussion.  Hosting = facilitating the service by giving announcements, introducing speakers, leading into worship, etc.)

Our Senior Pastor was preaching live and asked a question directed to single people.  I glanced around and saw couple after couple.  The room was quiet.  Wanting to be of assistance, I spoke up.

He acknowledged my answer, then said, Oh, but you don’t have to worry about that, since you’re married.

*Serena shaking her head no.

You’re not?  He retorted, looking confused.

*Serena shaking her head no violently while her face is turning 10 shades of red.

I wanted to hide.  Or melt into a puddle.  Or die.

Our pastor was just as mortified as I was.  He was incredibly apologetic after the service and asked, Okay, how did I miss that?  Honestly, I’m not sure – after all, I’ve been single since being on staff here.

Regardless, it ranks in one of my top 3 (in no particular order) most embarrassing moments.  #2 involved being dragged onto the center court at half-time of a Pacers game dressed as a hamburger bun.  #3 would be throwing up all over a treadmill while running at the gym.

What are your most embarrassing moments?

  2. Thankfully, I had on tennis shoes since I was a running hamburger bun. Not my finest moment, I can assure you… 🙂

  3. I LOVE your writing style 🙂 You really have a way of capturing the moment Serena…

  4. Thanks. I hope I captured it as mortification, because that’s what I felt!

  5. Oh, Serena. How many years ago when I told you you could write! I meant it. I mean it still.

  6. Haha, it is funny to me that your stories never seem to surprise me. I don’t know what it is but you always have these crazy things happen to you. If you are having trouble finding purpose in life just remember that you always amuse me! Don’t hate me, you know you love me! Oh ya and we made one hot looking sandwich, wait can i say that.
